I am something of a dinosaur in many ways. In most ways actually. But specially in music.
There was something special about rock and roll music as it happened in Australia in the 1950's. Cut off from the rest of the world by distance, and with television only just starting, the local performers had to make it up as they went along. They often got hold of obscure and unsuccessful songs from overseas, did their own thing with them, and turned them into unique national hits. Who, around at the time, could forget the magic way an obscure American country and western song, "Hey Sheriff", was turned into pure rock and roll by Johnny Rebb and the Rebels?
I have dedicated a few pages to some of these pioneers.
You will find no biographies here. Just a bit of information about them and their successes, and a screen shot or two if I have them.
I would love to post mp3 files of some of the rare sides, Australian and offshore, I have in my collection, but have no desire to breach copyright laws. If there is a way of getting the O.K., please let me know. I doubt that Candy and Mandy, Paul Wayne, Johnny Restivo, Jody Reynolds, Sandy Nelson, Bruce Clarke, or Rhett Walker were planning to re-release their singles in the near future.
Maybe some OZ originals would like some of their work doing the rounds again. I'd love to oblige, no money involved whatsoever. I just want to honour the music.
