"I wanna love you each night, please say you might"
Dig Richards, the son of a NSW country policeman, teamed up with his backing group, The RJ's, and hit first time up with the classic "I Wanna Love You", written by his brother Doug, who also penned the follow up "I'm Through", a great little rocker. Dig did a lot of touring and television work, finally coming up with a solo hit, "Raincoat In The River", more a pop style song. Beatleamia never fazed him, doing some Country stuff and coming up with a big hit with the maudlin "Aussie Bush Hat", which, together with his work touring Vietnam, kept him in the spotlight. He went quiet for a while, before changing his name to Digby Richards, working in England, and enjoying some minor successes on the back of the acoustic singer/songwriter fashion in the first part of the 1970's. His career cut short not long afterwards by a fatal illness, he clearly showed what can be achieved by sheer hard graft.
